Another two weeks have gone by?

How does this happen? I could beat myself up about failing to keep up with the blog, but honestly, it’s just life happening. I’m doing the best I can.

Last week, I finally got my act together in terms of workouts. Last Saturday, Caroline and I ran about 10 miles. During the week, I swam one day, did a hill workout run with Carol one day, and did an hour long run with Jenny on another. Yesterday I took off, though I should have run. Then today Carol and I did another 14 miles. I’m pretty pleased with that. I’m back on track for working out on a regular basis. I just need life to slow down a little so I can breathe.

Christmas came and went. I didn’t do Christmas cards, and I haven’t finished my shopping. New Years is almost here. Usually, I’m doing all kinds of cleaning and organization, but I haven’t gotten to that this year either. I need to slow down some. Maybe that’ll be my number one resolution this coming year – to live more slowly, to be less planned. Sound good?

Two weeks have gone by.

Somehow, two weeks have passed without an entry. And somehow, six days have gone by without a workout. That’s probably the longest I’ve gone in the past year without at least some kind of workout. What I do tomorrow morning, if anything, will depend on the weather. They are saying we could be icy in the morning. We’ll see. I need to do something though. This is terrible.

Thanks to Caroline.

This morning, Caroline and I did a 10 mile run around her neighborhood. It was a great morning for a number of reasons. I got to run with my sister. It was perfect, slightly cooler weather. I got to see my brother-in-law and niece and nephew before and after the run. (I actually hung out longer than I should have afterwards and missed church, but I appreciate the time with them.) And I got my mileage in. I can’t ask for much more than that.

The back of my right leg is a bit sore. I’m not sure why, though I wonder if I was overcompensating for the slightly bum knee somehow. I’m hopeful it’ll feel better in the morning.

I’m still doing major spring cleaning. Today, I threw out anything that had hydrogenated oils or high fructose corn syrup in it. That included crackers, some workout bars, my waffle mix, a salad dressing, popcorn, and a number of other items. I’m learning to read labels, and I’m learning how deceptive labels can be, particularly on the trans fat issue. I also cleaned out the second half of my closet, which included casual clothes, coats, and purses, and have much to donate to Mobile Loaves and Fishes. All in all, it was a rewarding day.

The plan for tomorrow is to do an early spin class and then meet Caroline for a short run, maybe 4 miles. It’ll be good to get a two-a-day in. It’s been a while. I suspect I’ll have more of them soon because my program with Jamie should start this week or next. Ironman Canada, I intend to be ready.
