Less than five weeks to go.

I have two more big weeks of training. Will that be enough?

I’m terribly excited. There are a few things I need to get done, in addition to training. I need to put my wetsuit on sometime in the next month. I need to make my packing list. I need to figure out when my bike drop off is. I need to get comfortable with the new aerobar bottle I just got. I need to get my game face on.

I’ve been operating from a place of fear. I didn’t expect that given that I have one race under my belt, but it’s still a daunting task. I need to start seeing myself at the finish and going through all those mental games you play with yourself to combat the anxiety. August 30 will be a big day.

Less than five weeks to go. I will be ready.

Eight weeks to go.

Can that be right? In some ways, that feels like tomorrow and I think that can’t possibly be right. Then I walk out into the Texas heat and think, “Eight weeks? Can I stand another eight weeks?” The answer, of course, is yes. I can, and I will.

Next weekend, I’m doing the B&B 70.3, named after Bread and Butter. When I told Jeanie that I wish I was scheduled to do a half, she came up with one. The course isn’t final, but the swim will be at Lifetime Fitness and the bike and run will start and finish from my house. Anyone who’d like to join us is welcome. No race fee. Just lots of heat.

I had a good weekend of training. Since we had Friday off for the fourth, I went on a bike ride Friday and Saturday. On Friday, I rode with Ron, a friend from a Writers’ League event in West Texas, and with his friend Steve. Yesterday, I rode on my own. Both were good rides on the north side of town. I really do enjoy being out on the bike, even in this crazy heat.

I was looking ahead a bit. Here is the schedule as I know it:

August 30, 2009 – Ironman Canada in Penticton, British Columbia
September 13, 2009 – The Nation’s Tri in DC (swim leg of a relay)
October 10, 2009 – Mamma Jamma Ride in Georgetown, Texas
January 9-10, 2010 – The Goofy Challenge at Disney World
May 1, 2010 – Ironman St. George

I’m guessing I’ll have some smaller events in there, too, but these are the big ones. Pretty fun, huh? I am feeling lucky to be able to do this stuff.
