Healing.

When I last wrote, I will dealing with a lingering hip injury. Not long after that post, my hip was fixed, and I’ve been running like a mad woman since. Not just running actually. I’ve been running and spinning and playing tennis, which has been a ton of fun. It feels phenomenal to move again without pain. I’ve learned an important lesson from this experience: healing is about surrounding yourself with the right people. Continue reading

Wednesday List #35 – Gratitudes.

I woke up in the middle of the night and quickly realized that I would not promptly fall back I sleep, so I got up and wrote. Two hours later, I did go back to sleep, and I ended up sleeping until 8:30 in the morning. Thankfully, I have a job that doesn’t require certain hours of me, so that wasn’t a problem, but in that moment I did appreciate the flexibility of my work. In the thick of not being healthy, I may have lost sight of all the goodness around me. So today I am focusing on recognizing those good things and expressing my gratitude for them. Continue reading

Not Racing Days #4 and #5 and Beyond.

We’re home from Coeur d’Alene, and I’m feeling a post-race slump even though I didn’t race. We spent Saturday morning with our new friend Rose, visiting and helping her prep her gear bags. That afternoon, we drove a couple of hours to Chewelah, Washington, to visit my dear friend Rey and her husband David, who moved up to that area about five years ago. The next day, we spectated. It was fun, as spectating an Ironman is always fun, but without a doubt, racing is more fun. Even though we were drenched in sweat just standing there holding signs and ringing cowbells, I envied those who were facing the 106 degree heat and the 147 degree ambient heat on the highway. It was a tough day out there and many incredibly able athletes were not able to survive the conditions, but damn. I so respect each and every one of them for trying. Continue reading
