I’m torn about the world opening up. It’s lovely to be back in restaurants and movie theaters and even, to some extent, the office. But are we doing the right thing? I keep hearing of friends getting Covid and numbers rising, particularly among the unvaccinated. I carry a bit of anxiety with me about all of these things, particularly as so much of how we respond seems to be politically driven. I want normal, but I feel the need to pull back. And so I am.

My First 50K – A Race Report.
Back in June, my friend Ann invited me to do a 50K trail race with her at the end of September. It would be in Massachusetts, very near where she lives, and it fell on her birthday. The timing wasn’t great because it was three weeks after Ironman Wisconsin and one week after my Colin’s Hope 10K swim, but I jumped at the chance to sign up because it would give me a chance to (a) meet a new goal that I’d been considering, (b) visit a place I love that I hadn’t been to in quite a while, and (c) celebrate a dear friend I hadn’t seen in nearly two years since we ran in Maine together. On the Trails Again!
In the rain, Dave and I drove up to Russell Park on Lake Georgetown for the Bruises and Bandages trail race with Trailhead Running. Since 2012, I’ve spent my falls trail running, but this last fall, I was super busy at work and couldn’t make Tuesday night runs work, so I’ve been off the trails for a while. I did the first race of my favorite trail series in November, but I hadn’t been running regularly – or at all, really – on trails. The November course was particularly challenging, so I struggled.
